Hello my networking friend. Welcome back!
Joe Gibbs, famous auto racing team owner and former NFL football coach was onto something when he said, "A winning effort begins with preparation."
Make your 1-2-1 a success by preparing both you, and the person you're meeting, to win.
How To Think of Everything for Your Referral Partner Before the Meeting:
1. Issue a clear invitation with all of the details, including where to park if parking is ambiguous. (Don't ever invite someone to a location where they have to pay to park.)
2. Seriously, the parking thing is a big deal! Make sure the parking instructions are crystal clear, because if the person is coming to the building for the first time, finding the building and parking can be very stressful.
3. Send a quick "checking in" text or email 24 hours prior to the meeting to make sure the time/place is still good for your referral partner.
4. A couple of hours before the meeting, if you have access to the person via facebook or cell, send a quick video telling your referral partner that you are looking forward to the meeting, and let him know that what you have on will be what you will be wearing when you meet. This is so helpful for those of us who struggle remembering people's faces.
5. Give the person any tips about the menu or atmosphere before the meeting.
Example: "The coffee shop tends to be chilly, bring a light sweater"
Go network my friend, and remember;
Show your fellow networker that you have thought of everything to make the meeting easy and fun.
